Before you set up a in-class quiz for students with accommodations at the testing center, please be sure to read and follow the Blackboard requirements below. These guidelines are in place to reduce technical issues and ensure that there are no delays for your students. If you have any questions regarding quiz setup, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Avoid Hidden Test Folders & Tabs
Restricting your exam folders or test tabs is not recommended. It’s more important to focus on configuring the test settings properly. The settings in the test options page are sufficient for controlling access to the exam. Folders containing exams should never be hidden or have a date restriction applied. If these are hidden, students will not have access on the day of the test.
Enable The Availability Link Setting
The “Make Link Available” setting in the exam options page must always be set to “Yes”. You can think of this setting as a master switch. When it’s off, the test remains hidden regardless of any other settings. When it’s on, the exam will become available based on the start and end date. This setting does NOT make the test immediately available.
Avoid Using the Force Completion Setting
The “Force Complete” option in the test settings automatically submits and grades the exam if any interruptions occur. It’s best to leave this setting unchecked. In the event of an internet outage or a technical issue, the student may need to be moved to another computer. We ask that you leave this setting unchecked so that the student can pick up where they left off. Otherwise, the student will need to restart their exam.
Set The Correct Availability Window
The testing window you create on Blackboard must match the dates provided to the testing center. Use the “Display After” and the “Display Until” settings to create an availability window for your exam. There are time fields next to each of these settings. Since the testing center does not offer partial day exams, click the clock icon and select “Midnight” next to Display After, and “End of Day” for Display Until. This should populate the times as 12:00 AM and 11:59 PM respectively (as shown in the image below). With your date range set, the Due Date setting is redundant and should not be used. This setting can interfere with makeup testers’ ability to see the exam.
