Weather-Related Class Cancellation Policy

When university classes have been cancelled due to weather.

Context:  Occasionally Boise State campus-based classes are cancelled (e.g., due to snow or ice or other inclement weather) in order to minimize students traveling to campus.  This decision is made for the safety of the students as well as the benefit of the community.

The following policies shall apply to the Testing Center when classes are closed:

  • If the University cancels classes for a full day, the Testing Center will be closed as well.
    • Scheduled tests will be extended by one full day
    • Students with appointments during the canceled day will be given the opportunity to make new appointments during the extended time
    • Any students who cannot test on the extended day offered should communicate with their faculty member about making further accommodations
  • If the University cancels classes for a half day (in the morning) , the Testing Center will be closed the same hours.
    • Scheduled tests will be extended by one full day
    • Students with appointments during the canceled day will be given the opportunity to make new appointments during the extended time
    • Any students who cannot test on the extended day offered should communicate with their faculty member about making further accommodations
  • If the University cancels classes for the later part of the day (e.g., after noon or after 5pm)
    • Students currently taking tests will be allowed to complete their tests.
    • The Testing Center will not allow anyone to begin a test  after the scheduled closure time (and the Testing Center will close as soon as possible – no later then two hours after the announcement of closure).
    • Scheduled tests will be extended by one full day
    • Students with appointments during the canceled day will be given the opportunity to make new appointments during the extended time
    • Any students who cannot test on the extended day offered should communicate with their faculty member about making further accommodations
  • If the University closes campus during Finals Week the Testing Center will follow the instructions of Academic Affairs consistent with regularly scheduled Face-to-Face exams.

Communication:

  • This policy will be posted on the  Testing Center website and will be communicated to all faculty prior to the start of the semester (so that it can also be communicated to students).
  • Once a University Announcement about class cancellation is made by the University, an update will be posted to the Testing Center website (two locations, front page and appointment scheduling page).
  • An email will be sent to all faculty with scheduled tests impacted by the closure reminding them of the snow day policy and informing them of the impact on students taking tests.
    • Testing Center staff will work with impacted faculty members to make arrangements to be sure that student testing needs are taken care of.
